#ThePlacesYouGo: Where(and what) I’ve Been Eating This Month
This final semester has been insane for me. Working on a documentary video project about the Seminole Heights neighborhood took up a lot of my time. Between scheduling interviews, editing and managing to keep my head above water, somehow I still managed to still eat some good ole Tampa food this month. Every place I’ve gone was different from the next and gave me a new experience each time.
I always enjoy trying out new things and definitely sending pics of my food to my folks. My dad is the pickiest eater (more on that later) so he isn’t EVER going to eat what I’m eating. It’s hilarious *hysterical laughter*. Eating great Tampa food is forever an adventure.
Sa Ri One
I’ve been dying to try Korean BBQ for the longest and this place has been in my Yelp bookmarks for a while now. For my 5th anniversary with my boyfriend, I thought this would be the best place to celebrate it. We ordered the Cha Do Bae Gi(beef brisket) meal with veggie dumplings as the appetizer. It’s fun watching the meat cook and listen to it sizzle on the grill(SN the waiter turns it on for you). I want to go with a group of people next time to get a different experience.
Maple Street Biscuit Company
I went here yesterday with my friend Tia for breakfast and to try it out for the first time. The Carrollwood location is 10 minutes from my house and I’m glad I went. They offer a bunch of things on their menu with the fluffiest biscuits. I have a small sweet tooth so I got the Sticky Maple biscuit. Sweet, pure maple syrup with crispy bacon and chicken is chock full of comfort.
Poke Fish
I’ve been obsessed with poke from the first bowl I ate and I’ve never been steered wrong. Fresh fish and veggies…where can anyone go wrong? Poke Fish opened up within the last few months in South Tampa. The blue interior of the store mimics the ocean(obvs with all the seafood). You can order specialty bowls or customize your own bowl with whatever you want. Since it’s my first time and I wanted to get a feel, I ordered the #4 specialty bowl. It’s fresh and satisfying with a kick of heat from the orange ginger vinaigrette.
Yard House
I heard about Yard House last year when my mom wanted to have a birthday dinner for my dad. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to go because he got sent away on a FEMA assignment. We finally went for my dad’s birthday dinner earlier this week and had a blast. I stepped way out of my comfort zone with the lamb burger and I wasn’t disappointed at all. It was juicy, moist and the cool taste of the feta cream cheese balanced it perfectly. Deviled eggs are always a good choice for appetizers but when there’s little bits of bacon on top, it goes to another level.
I’ve eaten some pretty bomb AF things this month at all different places. Where(and what) have you been eating this month? What’s your fave of the month?
