The Heights District welcomes Moxy Hotel to the neighborhood

The developers of The Heights District, a mixed-use destination located outside of Downtown Tampa along the Hillsborough River, announces the signed agreement with Marriott International to bring a new Moxy Hotel to the neighborhood. Their plan is to have the 153-room hotel occupy the first 7 floors inside of a new 25-story tower. Construction begins early next year with the hotel expected to open in 2022.

“We are excited to announce our plan to bring a Moxy Hotel to The Heights District – and to the Tampa Bay Area, which is ready for this bold brand,” said Chas Bruck, Co-Developer for The Heights District and Armature Works. “We see the brand as being a perfect fit for The Heights. We’re confident this hotel will become a hit with locals and visitors who crave a unique hotel experience the Tampa Bay area.”

The vision includes an experience that allows guests to live on the edge of technology like using their cell phone to enter the parking garage, check in to the hotel, and unlocking their room door. Amenities include a club room, fitness center, and several spaces for co-working, events, and retail. The Moxy Brand includes the Moxy Blank Canvas, a unique art program connecting up-and-coming artists with hotels to leave their mark.

“Over the past few years, I’ve been watching the evolution of the up and coming Tampa Heights District as it becomes a trendy place to work, live and play”, said Tim Sponsler, Vice President Marriott Lodging Development for Florida. “The development of Armature Works it a great example of the edgy vibe of the neighborhood and their development of the Moxy Hotel will have synergy with the overall vibrant lifestyle experience of The Heights District.”

The tower will sit between the intersections of West Oak and 7th Avenues and North Highlands and North Tampa Streets. While Moxy Hotel occupies a portion of the building, the remaining floors incorporate multi-family apartments with its own lobby separate from the hotel. The rest of the space consists of 5,ooo-square feet of retail space and a 1,500-space parking garage scheduled to open late 2020 to support the Heights Union constructs. An additional 9,000-square feet for retail space will be located in the parking garage too. Announcements for another 30,000-square feet retail space in the same come at a later date. A timetable for the completion of the entire area is 2022.

The Heights District is slowly growing along the Hillsborough River, starting with the opening of Armature Works last year followed by luxury apartment community The Pearl. Construction continues on Heights Union, a 342,000-square foot mixed-use workplace.
