Lona by Chef Richard Sandoval expands to Tampa Marriott Water Street this month

Renowned Fort Lauderdale-based Mexican restaurant Lona, helmed by Chef Richard Sandoval, expands with its second location to Tampa Marriott Water Street.

The anticipated restaurant opens July 18 in the space that was formerly Garrison Tavern. Lona is a collaboration with Chef Pablo Salas and brings vibrant flavors and authentic Mexican to Tampa Bay’s locals and tourists.

“The addition of Lona to our culinary portfolio comes at an incredible time as the expansion of the Water Street development culinary scene continues to rapidly evolve,” says Ron McAnaugh, Area General Manager for Tampa Marriott Water Street. “Our longstanding relationship with Richard Sandoval Hospitality has flourished and with the addition of Chef Pablo Salas, we will have the opportunity to showcase their heritage.”

“We are thrilled to bring the flavors and essence of Lona to Tampa,” said chef Richard Sandoval. “Our team is dedicated to crafting unforgettable dishes using the freshest ingredients, and we look forward to sharing our passion for Mexican cuisine with the community.”

Chef Pablo Salas, who gained acclaim as owner and founder of Mexico’s celebrated Amaranta, agrees wholeheartedly with Sandoval.

“Our vision is to create a dining experience that celebrates Mexico’s rich traditions and contemporary influences,” Salas says.

Now, on to the food. Lona’s menu offers an array of authentic dishes including:

Guacamole (traditional, Crispy Bacon, or Lump Crab)

Appetizers like Lona’s Ahi Tuna Tostada, Queso Fundido, and Street Corn on the Cob

Quesadillas (Lobster, Roasted Chicken, Brisket, Mushroom)

Tacos (Baja Fish Tacos, Carne Asada)

Pablo’s Fajitas

Chef’s Specials like Steak Tampiqueña

And lastly,

Desserts including Churros and Spiced Mexican Chocolate Cake

The beverage menu includes an expansive list of over 200 mezcal and tequila options plus private selections of Maestro Dobel Diamante and Añejo.

Find Lona inside Tampa Marriott Water Street at 505 Water St and open daily. Hours are 11 a.m.-2 p.m. for lunch and dinner 4 p.m.-11 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday all-day dining is 10 a.m.-11 p.m.; and Happy Hour is daily 4 p.m.-6 p.m.; weekend brunch is coming later this year.
